The 2018 UC Berkeley MyVoice Survey, like numerous national surveys before and since, found that lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, and trans people; people of color; and people with disabilities experience higher rates of sexual violence (Figure 22, from the 2018 MyVoice Survey).

Figure 22: Experiences of Different Forms of Harm, Undergraduates by Demographic Factors (2018)
As part of an effort to continuously improve the service provision for these and other underserved communities, the PATH to Care Center provides an opportunity for all clients to disclose their demographic data. Disclosure of identity data is completely optional and reported only in the aggregate. Clients were able to self-identify with more than one of the categories provided in Table 1. The PATH to Care Center estimates roughly 25% of clients responded to at least one of the optional demographic questions between July 1, 2022 - June 30, 2023. Of those clients, 69% identified as having a physical or mental disability; 75% identified as Black, Indigenous, or a person of color; 41% identified as holding an identity under the LGBQ+ umbrella; and 33% said they were older than 24 years of age, putting them in the category known as non-traditional students in higher education. 9% of clients identified as men. While men are not generally categorized as an underrepresented or underserved population at UC Berkeley, men are often not acknowledged as survivors of sexual violence, and research has found men are often underserved by resource providers, due to this stigma.
