The Collective Impact framework acknowledges that we, as a society, cannot change large, complex issues without the collective. It recognizes that we each hold a piece to changing our culture and mental models around an issue, whether it be from conducting research, to collecting data, to working in the field or having a lived experience, we all have a role to play. Collective Impact helps us understand how we can build collectives to address large, complex cultural issues while leveraging the strengths and knowledge of the entire collective, not just one person or office, by bringing the right people to the table at the right time. The framework guides the collective through building shared measurements, shifting power dynamics, and accountability to one other in the work. It grounds in equity, placing the folks most impacted by the issue in the center, and scales up as appropriate. Collective Impact is not only bringing the people together, it’s about who the people are and how they approach the work.
